What is West Yorkshire best known for? Well if TV is anything to go by, I would say cows and butter, possibly milk, and some dodgy accents. What if I was to say drum & bass? Now I’m not normally a big fan of normal drum & bass, but I am a fan of excellent drum & bass.
18 year old romantically challenged bohemian, Buster Charles, also known as Bustrexx, hails from the D&B capital of West Yorkshire, Wakefield. He has been producing D&B for a little over two years now and currently studying for a degree in Popular Music. Before all this he played guitar in a country/folk band, so where the drum & bass came from I have no idea, but thank god he put that guitar down and focused his talents elsewhere.
His biggest influences outside of drum & bass are Radiohead, Sparklehorse and Bon Iver, but DJ Marky, London Elektricity, Netsky and Unknown Error are his biggest idols when it comes to making some serious beats.
He has had quite a few releases in the past, remixes and originals spanning over several different British and international independent labels, but his biggest release yet ‘ A Common Element’, is due later this month on Subsphere Records. This release will feature what I consider to be his best work to date and will be accompanied by my new wake up song, ‘Broken Heart Syndrome’. This song features a perfect balance of just about everything D&B; soft harmonies, heavy drops, chilled yet mental beats and a general hardcore, uplifting vibe.
If you don’t like D&B but are willing to give it a go, I can think of no better track to give you an insight into exactly what it should sound like. Keep an eye on this kid!
