A velvety, emotionally rich, vocal tone has made Lila Adamaki one of the leading interpreters of Greek classical music. Although she sings in eight languages and her repertoire includes songs from Germany, France, Spain, Russia and the United States, Adamaki is at her best singing songs from her birthplace. Her 1998 album, Songs of My Homeland, featured interpretations of songs by such influential Greek composers as Nicolaos Mantzaros, Yannis Constantinides and Mikis Theodorakis.
Adamaki's early training came at the Hellenic Conservatory in Athens. A few years after her graduation, she moved to Paris and studied under Irma Kolassi. In 1972, Adamaki placed first at the International Competition of French Melody and was invited to join the French Broadcasting Corporation as a vocalist. In the years since, Adamaki has balanced solo recitals with concerts featuring large orchestras. She has continued to make her presence felt in Greece, performing with the Athens State Orchestra, appearing as a soloist for Greek State Television and recording for Greek Radio 3.
