Carmen Villain was once a successful model, appearing on the cover of Vogue and Marie Claire. Now, she is a musician, having spent many lonely flights sketching out the lyrics and structures of the songs that comprise her upcoming Smalltown Supersound debut, Sleeper. "Lifeissin" opens on a small, glimmering pool of reverb'd electric guitar and a single finger of barely audible keyboard. Villain's murmuring voice murmurs resonant indecipherables, as someone is blindfolding their eyes, asking "How does it feel to believe/ That I'm going to hell?"
The song, filled with these odd, haunting little mantras, beckons like an intimate conversation half-heard through a wall: "This is it life open the curtains", "Seek out seek in/ Breathe frost, yeah/ Life is sin." The longer you listen, the less sense it makes. And then, at the end, the song begins to erase itself, with a cold jet of synth eating away everything in sight.
