by Margaret RegesFor all their ballsiness and fire, the Ann Arbor-based indie rock group Bulletproof started out quietly enough. Lead singer Cammila Albertson, bassist Ryan Hyde, and guitarist David Widmayer initially began working together as a moody, melodic band called Out of the Water. The group recorded one EP, 2003's Fist for a Shell, before disbanding in 2004 when Hyde moved to Minneapolis for the year. Albertson and Widmayer continued to write new songs over the course of the following year, and when Hyde returned to Ann Arbor the three decided to put together another band. They drew drummer Rob Logan into the fold and, eschewing their former low-key sound for a blend of angular indie rock that nodded to artists like Storm & the Balls and the Sounds, the group christened itself Bulletproof. They recorded and self-released their first EP, Running Guns, in 2007.
