by Cesar LanzariniThe band was formed in 1979, joining vocal and instrumental music with roots in rock and classical music. Using electric-acoustic instruments, and an heir of a strong classical tradition, the music of Sagrado Cora??o da Terra brings forth the Baroque atmosphere. It is a journey through time and space to the origins and the future of all human musical experience. The instruments are those used in the classic tradition -- guitar, piano, and violin -- but used electronically. As in the lyrics, the music is linked to an ecological philosophy: ecology of the earth, ecology of the mind, of the heart and of the body.
Sagrado has been looked upon, in Brazil and abroad, as the most expressive work of the progressive symphonic music of Latin America. Their music links rock to the force of aboriginal tribal rhythms and the beauty and sophistication of the classical. The lyrics tells about the advent of a new era for mankind related to spiritual and ecological questions.
Marcus Viana, author of the lyrics and all the music of the group, became known to the public by the several soundtracks and overtures for Brazilian television, like Pantanal, Chiquinha Gonzaga, Xica da Silva, Ana Raio e Zé Trov?o, Serras Azuis, Terra Nostra, and Aquarela do Brasil. Sagrado has gone through a number of phases. Some of its members have gained national recognition performing with other groups and artists.
