After Years in the making, Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics will release their full-length debut album, “It’s About Time,” on Sept 4th, 2012. “My Dear,” the lead-off single from the upcoming long player, is a classic-mid-tempo R&B gem that draws on every facet of The Soulphonics’ weelhouse – out on 7″ vinyl and digital formats May 29, 2012.
Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics’ roots are embedded in the rich sound and history of Georgia soul, beginning with the early 50′s and 60′s R&B that became so well known around the world. Having performed countless gigs since 2005, and with a slew of 45rpm singles already under their belts, the band has already contributed heavily to the steadily increasing awareness of genuine rhythm and blues music that exists today. They pack clubs and festivals with their original brand of soul, all of which is written and recorded in Atlanta. Named by Creative Loafing as Atlanta’s best soul band in 2010 and 2011, Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics are taking it world wide in 2012, with a packed full-length finally being released to the world; “It’s About Time”
Since emerging on the scene, the band has performed at some of the areas best known venues and events for live music including;
The Earl
Smith’s Olde Bar
529
Highland Ballroom
The Woodruff Art Center
In addition, the group landed a 6 month residency at Star Bar in the Little 5 Points part of Atlanta from April 2009 – October 2009 which helped them to foster a deep loyal fan base. Currently, the group is focusing on their studio recordings, for release in early 2010, and is also accepting gigs outside of their home base. They released two singles in 2010, “Feet on the Ground” and “Heartlite” b/w “The Man Says.” Their full length record is due out in 2011.
The founding members, including Ruby Velle, Scott Clayton(guitar), and Spencer Garn(organ & bass) formed the band in Gainesville, FL, in 2005, and relocated to Atlanta in late 2007. The bands first recordings, now out of press, were recorded in 2006 and were well received by fans and radio stations, such as WRAS 88.5(Atlanta) and WMNF 88.5(Tampa).
