by Jason BirchmeierBefore Robert Hood began releasing music under his own name, he released his records as the Vision. Symbolic of the conceptual insightfulness that often crept into his heavily structured, almost mathematical style of techno, this name adequately summed up Hoods agenda: dance music with an aura of insightfulness. He released his first record as the Vision, Gyroscopic, on the Underground Resistance label in 1991 and eventually was awarded the opportunity to produce the second volume in the Waveform Transmission series of albums on Tresor in 1993. Following this album of techno filled with an abundance of oddly arranged sounds symmetrically cycling above hard 909 beats, Hood moved towards a reduced sound and began releasing music under his own name.
