Doppelg?ngeR is one of the most famous and oldest gothic bands in Russia. The band revives the traditions of Old School of Gothic Rock and Post Punk, set by such bands as Joy Division and Siouxsie and The Banshees. Expressive vocal, atmospheric guitar, bass which cuts through like a sharp glass, and wild drums drive the audience from rage to tears and back. Founded in 1994 in Moscow and went through numerous line-ups Doppelg?ngeR is carefully lead by its front man and bass-player Dmitry Flo. Along with Black CaT on guitar and Maggoth on drums, this trio appears as a solid example of Gothic Rock.
Doppelg?ngeR first self titled album was released in 1995 by “Metal-Agent/Soyuz”. In one year same label released another album “Serpent’s Land”, later the band has disappeared in shade for the next 4 years. Doppelg?ngeR returns from oblivion at the turn of the centuries, in 2000, which actually was very symbolic. By the year 2003 well known Russian major label “Misteria Zvuka” has released new album “…Desire lost forever?” Without any stretch it can be easily said that this particular album has changed the band’s destiny. Press reviews were ranging from flat rejection to unconditional worshiping. In any case this album did not leave anybody indifferent. In the year 2004 indie label “Shadowplay Release” has released the compilation of Russian dark scene music “Colours of Black”. Doppelg?ngeR is presented here with song “Kiss to My Last Breath”. This disk has become one of the most significant events in the history of the Russian gothic scene. It even has gained itself an international recognition. Mick Mercer, critic and author of numerous books on the history of gothic subculture, called it afterwards “the best compilation of the year 2004”. At the beginning of 2005 the band drew the bottom line of the half year of work with release of album “Dancing” at the label “Shadowplay Release”. This album reviews were published in Zillo, The Mick, The Sanctuary, Gothic Paradise, Fuzz, DarkCity, Dark Petersburg, The Crypt, DarkSide. Track “10 Years” from the album “Dancing” was included in “Shadowside” (2006) compilation, along with the tracks from Ikon, Two Witches, Attrition, The Merlons (of Nehemiah) and others. In the beginning of 2006 Doppelg?ngeR exclusive track “Democracy’s Undead” for the second volume of compilation of Russian dark scene music “Colours of Black v.2”.
At the end of the year 2006 band’s fifth album named “Saturnian Rings” was released. Band members’ interest to the role of Roman God Saturn in medieval alchemic teachings has served as a framework for this album; lyrics to some songs are inspired by writings of Gustav Meyrink, well known Austrian author. Along with 10 original tracks this album contains 4 bonus tracks. Bonus tracks are the remixes of the Dopelg?ngeR song by Two Witches (Germany/Finland), Redemption (USA), The Way Of All Flesh (UK), Secrecy (Portugal).
Album release parties were held in Finland, London and Leeds (UK). At the same time compilation called “A Kiss in the Reptile House” was released where Doppelg?ngeR presented track “Vivo”. Tracks from such bands as The House of Usher, Pink Turns Blue, 1919, Funhouse, The Last Days of Jesus, Two Witches and others were included on mentioned compilation.
